Guest Post: Happy 4 months Liliana!

This is Cristy's husband, Evan.  I usually post my letter to Liliana on my blog, but I have it closed during the residency interview season.  Therefore, I'll post it here.

Liliana,

Happy 4 month birthday sweetheart!  This has been quite a month for you.  For one, you have nearly mastered rolling over.  While you are already an ambiroller, you prefer to roll halfway, onto your side, and then fall asleep.  We've had to be much more careful leaving you on your changing pad and the couch because you're apt to roll right off.  You've also begun grabbing out for things.  We bought you a set of interlocking rings that you love to grab, swing, and stick in your mouth.  You like to put pretty much everything in your mouth.  My favorite moment of the month was the first time you reached out and grabbed my finger on purpose.  It was a wonderful feeling and a special moment.  You do that a lot- give your mommy and I special moments.

Your favorite new activity is babbling.  You babble incessantly, from the moment you wake up until you fall asleep.  You may not win a grammy any time soon, but it's music to our ears.  Apparently you get this tendency from Mom. Aba has told us that she used to sing until she fell asleep at night and then pick up right where she left off when she awoke in the morning.

You've been going to daycare this month so Mom can study for her certification exam.  You've loved it!  You are always happy when we come pick you up- regardless of what time that may be.  They take very good care of you and seem to enjoy you.  The other babies seem to spend a great deal of time crying, but not you. We feel that daycare has helped you immensely. You immediately made big strides in talking and grabbing when you started.

On a less happy note, it has been a tough month for me.  I've been very busy and didn't get to spend as much time with you as I would have liked.  This week I was only home before 9 twice and I left before 6, so I hardly saw you!  I've been a bit unnerved by this, because it will not be a completely unheard of event during residency. If I didn't know that hours got a LOT better in private practice, I would not be entering a surgical field.  You and Mom are much too important to me.  However, I know that after these five years, we'll have tons more time together.  You won't even remember that I was gone a lot before you were six- how sad is that?

As always, you have been a complete joy.  You make Mommy and I smile constantly.  I fall more in love with you every day.  If you look closely at your little finger, you'll see me there, all wrapped around it.

I love you more than all the stars in the sky and all the fish in the sea, you are a perfect little girl.

  1. Another Daddy's little girl! There is something about your post that brings tears to my eyes, as I think of my own father who is now 91 years old, and the special relationship we have had all these years. Many, many blessings to you and your wonderful family!
